odds & ends: What started out as an exercise in writing music to existing lyrics, ended up as one of my favorite songs (well...they’re all my favorites, really). This one came very easily. Along the way, many production ideas came to mind, all of which can be heard in this song. As for the vocal performance—it’s not my usual style but for some reason, the song just seemed to call for it.TrainOfThought.htmlHowLong.htmlBabyForYou.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2

Swim

music Andrew Lubman, words Robert Deutsch

It's been three days now,

staring over the edge

feeling so close

but I swear

but I pledge

I would jump in the water if I thought I could swim

but it's been such a long time, the memory's so dim

If I can't swim then I surely will drown

but once into the blue, there's no turning around

Staring at my face in the water's reflection

the sun's burning me

I need some help, need some protection

But nothing would feel good like a long cool drink

Just when my heart's made up

I start to think

I would jump in the water if I thought I could swim

but it's been such a long time, the memory's so dim

If I can't swim everything will go black

but once I jump in, there's no turning back

But in my mind I've already swam to shore

So it was many miles, I could swim a thousand more.

I know when I reach land, this is the way I will feel

just got to take that first step

if it just weren't so real!

I would jump in the water if I thought I could swim

but it's been such a long time, the memory's so dim.

Should I stay on the boat, and long for the shore?

or do I throw myself in?

I can't wait anymore!
